Like any other person who finds themselves on Instagram frequently, a pretty solid part of my feed is NYC restaurants - more specifically, coffee shops. In the past month or so, I've made a conscious effort to join the coffee culture here (excuse me if I sound basic). What else is there to do though?
1. Toby's Estate Coffee, 44 Charles Street, West Village: Great for studying. Not the largest space, but I was there on a Thursday around 11 and was able to get a table with my roommate. I can't have caffeine, so their DECAF cold brew gets an A+! Yes! Decaf cold brew! The avocado toast was solid as well.
2. Two Hands, 164 Mott Street, Little Italy: I was here by myself on a Thursday and was seated for lunch almost immediately. Don't come here for studying, you won't get anything done. However, the pink cups and fabulous Australian-healthy-breakfast-brunch menu is a win in my book. And fake clouds. Enough said.
3. Cha Cha Matcha, 373 Broome Street, Little Italy: I broke my no-caffeine lifestyle for a Matcha Lemonade. Worth it. Bring your books (but you'll probably get distracted people watching). Still trying to figure out which model was in there when I was hanging out. A roomy space, you won't feel greedy if you take up a small table for yourself.
4. Smile to Go, 22 Howard Street, Soho: Delicious. Go here. You'll probably be sitting next to some fabulous New Yorker on their way to work. It's small, so come with one other person so you can get a table and hang out for awhile without feeling like you're taking up space. The cafe is on the cutest Soho block, kind of off the beaten path. You won't be angry you went.
5. Egg Shop, 151 Elizabeth Street, Nolita: A lot of hype. Not worth the wait. I was with 3 other people at 9 in the morning - we were seated in 20 minutes. Can't imagine what the wait would be around 11 on a Saturday. I had the basic egg sandwich - good, have had better. Cute place. If you're there, it's probably for the 'gram. Walk by, snap your photo, and take your money elsewhere if the wait is longer than 30 minutes.
